Sewa Bharati

Sewa Bharati is a Voluntary Organization one amongst many working in this counrty, albeit with a difference. It was established in the year 1978 at Delhi and in the year 1990 activities of the Organization started  in erstwhile Madhya Pradesh state in the name of Sewa Bharati (Madhya Bharat). This is a Registered Organization vide its Registration No.346/90.

This is a Apex Body having control over the various registered Sewa Bharati Units working in the state of M.P. and Chhattisgarh. It provides guidance, financial and technical support.

Aim of the Sewa Bharati:

Sewa Bharati was established with the foremost aim of bringing the socially neglected, educationally backward and poverty struck section of the Society into the main stream of the Society.  It is expected that these people will regain their self-respect and confidence and make them self-reliant respected citizens through the various Programmes, Projects and activities organized by the Organization. 

Target Population According to the 2001 Census in Madhya Kshetra (erstwhile M.P.State) tribal form about 23.3% of total population. There are eight districts in which the tribal population is more than 66%(2/3^rd) of the population.  In addition, there are 12 more districts where the tribal population is above 50%. Most of these districts are geographically distributed over far-flung areas of the states. Further they are either covered  with thick forests and or surrounded by mountains. Even to-day, communication channels to these areas are meager or practically non-existent. Consequently, the living of these people is in primitive state. These tribals form one portion of the target population of "Sewa Bharatis" activities, while the other portion is residing in the slum areas called Sewa Bastis of the various cities (like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur Raipur, Bilaspur etc.) below the poverty line.  In these slum areas, children, adolescent and youths are exposed to all sorts of evils and bad habits.  In absence of anyone to look after or guide, they fall pray to these bad habits and are exploited by criminals (abuse of children).  Most of the adults are also illiterate and have neither concern nor time for education of their children.  These slum-dwellers form equally important portion of Sewa Bharati's target population.
